Incanthera unveils 'breakthrough' data showing strong UV protection from skincare product

Incanthera PLC (AQSE:INC), the dermatology and oncology specialist listed on the Aquis Stock Exchange, has released new laboratory findings suggesting that its Skin + CELL product provides significant protection against sun-related skin cell damage.
The study, carried out by Skin Life Analytics in Newcastle, focused on how well the topical product protects mitochondria, structures within skin cells responsible for energy production.
These energy centres are also sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light, which can accelerate skin ageing and reduce cellular function.
The results showed that skin cells pre-treated with 1% Skin + CELL for six days experienced a 6.5-fold reduction in mitochondrial DNA damage after exposure to simulated sunlight.
Mitochondrial DNA is often used as an indicator of cellular ageing, particularly in skin research, due to its vulnerability to environmental stress.
Further tests measured energy production using a laboratory instrument known as a Seahorse Bioanalyser.
Treated skin cells not only maintained healthier mitochondria but also showed increased energy output, pointing to both protective and performance-enhancing effects.
The company also reported that Skin + CELL did not harm the skin fibroblasts used in the study.
Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for producing collagen and maintaining skin structure, making them a critical focus in anti-ageing research.
While the findings are limited to lab-based models and not clinical trials on humans, Incanthera described the results as a significant step in demonstrating the skincare potential of its product.
Incanthera described the independent research as 'breakthrough'. CEO Simon Ward added: "This study reinforces the effectiveness of our product as a potent ally in daily skincare routines.
"The results demonstrate that continued use of Skin + CELL creates a shield that helps maintain the cell's core energy source and potentially reduces premature skin ageing, as well as marked reduction in DNA damage after solar UV exposure.
"Incanthera remains committed to researching and developing products that support vibrant, energetic skin, where skin protection and rejuvenation are within everyone's reach."
